Two Key Elections: One Devasting Outcome

Its been too long readers, but now I back refreshed and ready to get to it. Firstly, Congrats to Creigh Deeds on Virginia’s Gubernatorial Race. He beat out 2 of Northern VA’s most respected politicians: former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe and former delegate Brian Moran.  Critics are saying Virginia’s Gubernatorial Race is going to be front and center  from both political parties. All eyes are on Creigh Deeds and his opponent Bob McDonnell.

The underdog turned TOPDOG is now the pride and hope of VA’s Democratic Party to win in November. So what do we know about Mr. Deeds? Here are some fast facts:

Creigh Deeds is from Bath County, VA. After graduating law school (Wake Forest School of Law in ’84), three years later Deeds was elected to be Commonwealth Attorney for Bath County, defeating his opponent by 65% of the vote.

In ’91, Deeds was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates defeating the incumbent Emmett Hanger with 57% victory.  While in the House of Delegates, Deeds introduced Megan’s Law to the Virginia Assembly and passed in 1998.  After becoming state senator of bath county due to an unfortunate death of the incumbent in 2001.

In 2005, Deeds set his sights on the Attorney General Race. His rival, Bob McDonnell who outspent him by nearly 3 million dollars to edge out the victory to 49.96 % to 49.95 % . Pretty close huh?

Well let me say this, Deeds is a fighter. His story of humble beings makes me believer in him.  With his experience, Deeds knows the challenge of running against tough competitors.  He’s resilient and thrives in the face of obstacles. This is the kind of Governor I want for Virginia. This time around he needs a more than just your verbal support. Deeds needs your help whether making phone calls, talking to neighbors, or knocking on doors. If you want a better Virginia Vote Deeds in November

Now onto the second election topic of the day: I wish I could say that the outcome of the Iranian election was pleasant experience, but unfortunately its more devasting that I intially thought. Thousands of Iranians protested throughout the city today in solidarity to show their disappointment and betrayal of the electoral system in their own country. My compassionate side kicks in when I see law enforcement using “force” to silence the protestors.  The only  question I have is this: Was this election really rigged? And if so, What can be done? Can there really be anything about this situation? Many citizens say that the incumbent was hand picked and that there votes mean nothing. I happen to agree. What is the point of voting if your opinion is not taken into consideration? I know what you are thinking, Iran run’s a different political machine from the United States, where democracy is a unicorn. I get it.  To me, what is so upsetting is seeing the pictures of tears and frustruations of their citizens (see the link below).  We all have to take a step back and be thankful that our voices can be heard if we oppose a candidate or any issues for that matter.  This reminds me of a that classic saying, “Freedom Ain’t Free”.

Till Next Time!
